in Malda city, Tapan Mandal, a resident of Bagbari, was robbed of his gold chain and Rs.5,000 in cash on Tuesday night while returning home after celebrating Durga Puja. The robbery occurred around 10 PM, shortly after Tapan had visited the Thakur to offer his prayers during the festive season, a time when the city sees a significant influx of visitors.
While walking through the Kalimandir area, Tapan was confronted by a young man who abruptly blocked his path. The assailant, reportedly in his early twenties, demanded Tapan's belongings. In an aggressive move, he snatched Tapan’s gold necklace, which is valued at several thousand rupees, along with the cash. Tapan shouted for help, drawing the attention of nearby residents, who rushed to assist him, but the robber managed to escape amidst the chaos.
Local law enforcement quickly sprang into action after Tapan filed a written complaint at the English Bazar police station on Wednesday morning. Officers have since identified the suspect as Sushant Sarkar, a local resident in the same area. Police have begun gathering evidence, including reviewing CCTV footage from nearby establishments and interviewing witnesses to build a case against the suspect. They are also exploring any connections Sushant may have with previous incidents in the area.
