Eight individuals sustained injuries in a serious accident on Wednesday morning involving a tourist bus carrying Buddhist monks in Jehanabad, Bihar. The incident took place on NH-83 near Salempur village when the bus collided with a heavy vehicle, resulting in the bus overturning and rolling into a roadside ditch.
The tourist bus was transporting 23 Buddhist monks who were returning to Bodh Gaya after renewing their visas in Nepal. Eyewitnesses reported that the heavy vehicle was traveling at a high speed and lost control before colliding with the bus. After the accident, medical teams responded promptly, providing immediate care to the injured and transporting them to the sadar hospital in Jehanabad.
Among the injured, three monks suffered severe injuries and were quickly referred to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) for advanced medical treatment after receiving initial care at the sadar hospital. The remaining injured individuals are being treated at the sadar hospital, where their conditions are reported to be stable.
Kadouna police officer Nand Kumar confirmed that the heavy vehicle's reckless driving was a contributing factor in the accident. He stated that an investigation is underway to gather further details about the driver’s actions and any potential violations of traffic laws. Fortunately, other passengers on the bus were unharmed during the incident. The bus was carrying a diverse group of tourists, including individuals from Vietnam, Myanmar, and the USA, all of whom were excited to visit the sacred sites in Bodh Gaya.
