Jammu and Kashmir hit by 5.8 magnitude earthquake, no casualties reported
Maharajpur police seized seven kilograms of marijuana during an encounter that left two traffickers injured on Tuesday night. The incident unfolded when a joint police team from Maharajpur and Chakeri, led by Assistant Commissioner of Police Chakeri, was conducting a search for suspicious individuals.
Around midnight, the police spotted two men riding a scooter who appeared to be evading them. Upon being signaled to stop, the suspects opened fire on the police, leading to a swift retaliatory response. During the exchange, both traffickers sustained gunshot wounds to their legs and were subsequently apprehended.
The injured traffickers were identified as Neeraj, son of Sanjay, and Manish, residents of Para Narwal. Following their capture, police recovered over seven kilograms of marijuana from their possession. They were immediately transported to the hospital for medical treatment and are now under interrogation to uncover further details about their drug trafficking operations and possible connections within the narcotics trade.
This encounter forms part of a larger initiative to tackle illegal drug activities in the region, as emphasized by Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Shravan Kumar Singh. Under the direction of Police Commissioner Akhil Kumar, authorities are intensifying efforts to curb the illegal narcotics trade, which has been a growing concern.
