the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured 48 out of 90 seats in the Haryana Assembly, marking the party’s historic third consecutive term in the state. Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed party workers shortly after the results were announced, expressing gratitude for the public's support and taking direct aim at the Congress party, which managed only 37 seats despite predictions from exit polls that suggested a stronger performance.
During his address, Modi characterized Congress as a "parasitic party that swallows its allies," accusing it of a systematic attempt to undermine national institutions. He claimed, "Congress wants to build a country where people hate their heritage and doubt their national institutions," referring specifically to their allegations against the Election Commission of India, the judiciary, and police forces. Modi emphasized the importance of respecting these institutions and their roles in maintaining the democratic fabric of the nation.
Congress's reaction to the election outcome was one of shock and denial. Party leaders described the results as "totally unexpected, completely surprising, counter-intuitive, and against ground realities." They indicated their intention not to accept the election results and lodged a formal complaint with the Election Commission (EC) regarding what they termed an unexplained "delay" in the uploading of results. However, the EC dismissed these claims as "unsubstantiated," clarifying that the counting process adhered strictly to the Conduct of Election Rules, which ensures transparency and accountability in the electoral process.
Modi further highlighted that the results in Haryana reflect a broader trend regarding the Congress party's diminishing influence. He pointed out that in Jammu and Kashmir, the BJP emerged as the second-largest party, winning 29 seats, while Congress's allies were reportedly concerned about losses attributed to their partnership with the party. The Prime Minister noted, "We saw the same thing in the Lok Sabha elections, where Congress's allies had to bear the brunt of their poor performance." Modi thanked the people of Haryana for their overwhelming support, saying they "wholeheartedly voted for us."
