Youth dies after alleged beating at South Garia drug rehab, family vandalizes centre in protest
The police and the 52nd Battalion of the SSB arrested a smuggler in Sikti, Araria, seizing 75 grams of smack. This operation took place approximately 400 meters inside Indian territory from the India-Nepal border pillar S0156, underscoring the authorities' commitment to combating drug trafficking.
The arrested individual, identified as Deepak Kumar Basak Gopal, is a resident of Kachna Ward No. 1 in the Sikti police station area. Along with the smack, officials confiscated a mobile phone, 67,000 Nepalese rupees, and 80 Indian currency notes, consisting of 54 notes of 1,000 rupees and 26 notes of 500 rupees. The estimated international market value of the seized narcotics is around two lakh rupees.
This successful operation was executed based on reliable intelligence. Under the guidance of SSB Assistant Commandant Sandeep Arya, the team conducted intensive vehicle checks near the Bajrangbali temple. When Deepak attempted to escape towards Nepal on a motorcycle, SSB personnel swiftly apprehended him, demonstrating their effectiveness in maintaining border security.
During the search, authorities found the 75 grams of smack hidden in a black pouch concealed within his pant belt. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered, numbered 150/24, and police are conducting thorough interrogations to trace any additional connections to drug trafficking networks.
