Taiwan's Ministry of National Defence (MND) reported a marked increase in Chinese military activity, detecting 27 military aircraft and six naval vessels operating around the island from 6 a.m. on Sunday to 6 a.m. on Monday (local time). Of the 27 People's Liberation Army (PLA) aircraft, 19 crossed the Taiwan Strait median line, entering Taiwan's northern, central, and southwestern Air Defence Identification Zones (ADIZ). The MND confirmed its ongoing monitoring and response to these incursions.
The day prior, Taiwan's MND reported four PLA aircraft and six naval vessels in the vicinity, highlighting a continuous pattern of military maneuvers. Since the beginning of October, 44 military aircraft and 15 naval ships have been tracked around Taiwan. In response, Taiwan has deployed its own aircraft and naval ships while activating air defense missile systems to safeguard its airspace.
China's increased military activity reflects a strategy of gray zone tactics, aimed at exerting pressure on Taiwan without direct confrontation. This approach has intensified since September 2020, involving regular incursions into Taiwan's ADIZ and raising concerns about regional stability. Taiwan remains vigilant in monitoring and responding to these developments, underscoring the ongoing tensions in the Taiwan Strait.
