The family of a deceased woman from Patashpur, Purba Medinipur, has rejected the official post-mortem report, which attributed her death to poisoning. On Sunday, the autopsy was conducted at Tamralipta Medical College and Hospital, with the police confirming that no signs of injury or sexual assault were found. However, the woman's family refused to accept the body and decided to approach the High Court, demanding a second post-mortem at a larger hospital outside Tamluk.
According to the police, the initial post-mortem report concluded that the woman died from poisoning, with no visible signs of physical trauma. The investigating officer from Patashpur police station, who was present during the autopsy, stated that the woman’s death was likely due to toxic ingestion. However, the deceased's family alleged that she was subjected to severe physical abuse, with injuries on her chest and stomach. They also claimed that the woman was found unclothed, a detail they believe was ignored in the official report.
The family is now demanding a new post-mortem, citing dissatisfaction with the findings. "We are not satisfied with the report. The police say it was poisoning, but we believe there was foul play. We will move the High Court on Monday to seek a second autopsy," said the deceased’s son. The family has refused to collect the body until their demands are met.
The case took a violent turn when the accused man, suspected of poisoning the woman, was lynched by an enraged mob in the village. Police investigations revealed that the woman had an illicit relationship with the accused, which led to a confrontation. When villagers learned of her death, they attacked the man, beating him to death. Complaints have been filed by both families, but no arrests have been made yet, as police conduct separate investigations into both incidents.
