A strong bowling attack, followed by Yashasvi Jaiswal's half-century helped Team India defeat Bangladesh by seven wickets in the second Test of the two-match series in Kanpur. Resuming Day 4 at 26/2, Bangladesh got bundled out for 146, giving a target of 95 to India.
For India, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and Jasprit Bumrah scalped three wickets each. Later in the chase, India started on an aggressive note but lost two early wickets. Later, Jaiswal scored 51 before getting dismissed. In the end, Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant took India home with seven wickets in hand. Mehidy Hasan Miraz took two wickets for Bangladesh while Taijul Islam took one. With this win, India has swept the two-match series 2-0.
Jaiswal now has 929 runs in Tests in 2024, the most by an India batter in a calendar year in the format before turning 23, surpassing Sunil Gavaskar’s 918 in 1971. He also equaled the record of Virendra Sehwag in scoring 50+ runs in both innings with a strike rate of 100 or more.
Meanwhile, Najmul Hossain Shanto, the Bangladesh captain, "Both the Tests we didn't bat well. In these conditions, we need to bat well. If you look at our batters - we played 30-40 balls and got out. The way Ashwin and Jaddu batted at that time - they batted well. That partnership cost us that game. The way Mominul batted this inning was good. And then was Miraz bowled."
