Jammu and Kashmir hit by 5.8 magnitude earthquake, no casualties reported
The Central Government has sanctioned a total of ₹675 crore as flood relief for the states of Gujarat, Manipur, and Tripura. Gujarat, which has been severely affected by heavy rainfall and floods, will receive ₹600 crore. Meanwhile, Manipur and Tripura, also grappling with landslides and flood damage, are allocated ₹50 crore and ₹25 crore, respectively. This financial aid comes from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and an advance from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF).
Gujarat, particularly the city and district of Vadodara, experienced heavy flooding in August due to torrential rains. An Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) visited the state to assess the damage and ensure appropriate assistance. The funds are aimed at helping the state recover from the widespread damage caused by the monsoon. Manipur and Tripura, although receiving smaller amounts, were also impacted by severe weather conditions, including landslides triggered by heavy rains.
This ₹675 crore fund is part of a broader effort by the Central Government to assist flood-affected states across the country. So far, ₹9,044.80 crore has been released from the SDRF to 21 states, and ₹4,528.66 crore from the NDRF to 15 states this year alone. States like Assam, Mizoram, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana have also been affected by extreme weather conditions, and Inter-Ministerial Central Teams have been dispatched to assess the damage in these regions.
In addition to financial aid, the Central Government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, has ensured logistic support to flood-affected areas. National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams, as well as Army and Air Force units, have been deployed to provide on-ground assistance where needed. The government remains committed to supporting all flood-hit states, with additional funds for Bihar and West Bengal expected after the IMCT completes its assessment in these regions.
