Speeding bus mows down pedestrian at MG Road more, driver flee
Just 24 hours before the planned toy train service on World Tourism Day, the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR) had to cancel the event due to a landslide that affected the railway line near Siliguri's Salbari.
The landslide has not only halted the tourism event but has also raised concerns about the train's operation between New Jalpaiguri Junction (NJP) and Darjeeling during the Puja season.
North East Frontier Railway Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO), Kopinjal Kishore Sharma, mentioned that it may be challenging to restore the toy train service before Puja.
Investigations are ongoing to understand how the soil erosion occurred in Shalbari, an area prone to landslides. The railway’s plans to promote Puja tourism through the toy train service have been jeopardized by this unfortunate natural disaster.
The disruption comes at a crucial time for Puja tourists, who often seek the scenic toy train ride between NJP and Darjeeling. With uncertainty surrounding the repairs, it remains unclear whether the service will resume in time for the festive season.
