Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee held a significant health meeting at Nabanna on Thursday, addressing various aspects of the state's healthcare system. The meeting was attended by the principals of medical colleges, along with senior health officials, including Heads of Department (HODs), CMOH, BMOH, District Magistrates, and Superintendents of Police. The purpose was to review the current situation and introduce new measures to enhance healthcare facilities.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, the Chief Minister announced that ₹100 crore has been allocated for the development of restrooms, washrooms, and the installation of CCTV cameras in medical institutions. To streamline hospital management, she declared that the principal of each medical college would now serve as the chairman of the patient welfare association. Additionally, the government has instructed the implementation of a biometric system to improve attendance tracking.
Mamata Banerjee also highlighted that Surjit Kar Purkayastha has been assigned the responsibility for hospital security across the state. The allocated funds will also be used for infrastructure development. The revamped patient welfare association will include representatives such as the MSVP, a junior doctor, a senior doctor or HOD, a nursing representative, and a public figure.
In her concluding remarks, the Chief Minister expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the meeting and noted that the "Rattirer Sathi" initiative, a night assistance program, will be launched soon. Additionally, contractors involved in security and construction have been asked to maintain transparent records.
