CESC employees beaten by locals in Liluah over illegal power connections

Late Tuesday night, in a tense situation, residents in the Liluah police station area of Gaushala Road attacked employees of CESC (Calcutta Electric Supply Corporation). The incident unfolded as the employees were accused of illegally providing electricity connections to factories built on government-acquired land.

The land in question, around 100 bighas, had been taken over by the government three months ago. However, locals allege that a private company illegally reoccupied the area and resumed operations.

As the CESC employees attempted to install power connections for these factories, the enraged locals confronted them. A scuffle ensued, with residents accusing the power company of collaborating with the private factory owners. Tensions escalated quickly, resulting in a group of residents physically assaulting the employees.

Upon receiving reports of the incident, the police from Liluah police station swiftly intervened. The officers managed to rescue the CESC employees from the crowd and bring the situation under control. An investigation into the allegations is underway, with a focus on both the factory's reoccupation of the government land and the alleged illegal power connections.
