Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee held an administrative meeting in Birbhum to assess the flood situation and relief measures for affected residents. Announcing substantial support, the CM declared that families of flood victims who lost their homes will receive Rs 2 lakh each, and 11 lakh houses will be built by December for those affected.
Birbhum has been severely impacted by floods in several areas like Dubrajpur, Rampurhat, Lovepur, and Siuri. Although floodwaters have receded, mud remains in many places. The CM directed the continuation of government relief (GR) for flood victims until conditions normalize, and rural road repairs will be prioritized. An amount of Rs 1 crore from the MP sector will be allocated for school repairs, while Rs 4 crore will be spent on road restoration.
The CM also expressed concern about the DVC (Damodar Valley Corporation) releasing water from Jharkhand, which she blamed for recurring man-made floods in Bengal. She assured the public that the state government is constantly monitoring the situation and taking proactive steps. Compensation of Rs 2 lakh will be given to the families of 28 deceased flood victims, along with a separate Rs 2 lakh for those who died without treatment.
Mamata also highlighted the government’s effort to support farmers whose lands and crops were destroyed. She emphasized that crop insurance will be provided without any contribution from farmers and assured compensation once the water fully recedes.
