Nichupatti's house in Birbhum witnessed a grand celebration on Tuesday as Mangal-Utsava was held after two years of silence. Crowds gathered, playing traditional Dhak, Dhol, Sankh, and Green Gulal, bringing the area to life. The festivity marked Anubrata Mondal’s return to his home after his arrest by the CBI in August 2022, which had left his residence deserted for over two years.
Anubrata Mondal, a key Trinamool Congress leader from Birbhum, was arrested for his alleged involvement in various cases including the infamous cattle smuggling case. His house, which also doubles as the local Trinamool party office, had remained largely empty since his arrest.
However, on Tuesday morning, TMC workers, district leaders, and prominent figures such as Siuri MLA Bikash Roy Chowdhury and Prisons Minister Chandranath Sinhara arrived to celebrate his homecoming.
Mondal was released from Delhi's Tihar Jail on September 23, after spending 2 years, 1 month, and 12 days behind bars. He was seen leaving the jail around 9:30 PM, accompanied by his daughter Sukanya, who herself had secured bail recently.
On Tuesday, he stepped back into his Nichupatti house with his daughter by his side, and quickly resumed activities at his home office. His return was greeted warmly by supporters, with local leaders gathering outside to catch a glimpse of him.
Security has been tightened around his residence, with six police personnel stationed at the entrance, while Mondal waved at the crowds from within.
