A fire broke out on Monday afternoon at a three-storey residential building in Lake Place, near Kabir Road, South Kolkata. The fire started in the meter box of the building, leading to a quick response from the fire department and CESC workers. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the incident.
Residents of the multi-storey building were immediately evacuated by the fire brigade upon their arrival. The blaze was first noticed when residents saw smoke emerging from the meter box, prompting them to alert the authorities. The fire department received the emergency call at around 3:10 pm, and one fire engine was dispatched to the scene.
In response to the situation, the electricity connection to the building was swiftly cut off to prevent further damage and ensure the safety of the residents. CESC workers assisted in disconnecting the power as part of the emergency measures. The fire was brought under control, with no injuries or significant damage reported.
The incident caused a stir in the surrounding area, as concerned locals gathered in the streets. However, the swift response from the fire brigade and CESC averted a major disaster. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire, though it appears to have been an electrical issue.
