The BJP Mahila Morcha (women’s wing) has organized a series of symbolic protests against the RG Kar rape and murder case, including cleaning campaigns where they washed police stations with Gangajal and swept the premises with brooms.
One such protest was held by the North Kolkata Mahila Morcha, where women broke police barricades and marched to the Deputy Commissioner’s office, demanding accountability. BJP leaders like Locket Chattopadhyay, Purnima Chakraborty, and Tamghna Ghosh led the charge, accompanied by women and men workers. The protest temporarily disrupted traffic in Maniktala as demonstrators expressed their anger and frustration.
Similarly, in Howrah, a cleaning campaign was organized at the police station by the State Mahila Morcha and Bharatiya Janata Party. Priyanka Tibrewal, along with other leaders, officers, and party members, participated in the protest. Tibrewal criticized the government, noting that during a previous Nabanna Abhiyan, police resorted to lathi-charge on common people, yet they have failed to arrest perpetrators of heinous crimes such as rape. She emphasized that the protests were not only against women’s insecurity but also against the broader failures of the government and police administration.
