The movement of trucks for inter-state trade between Jharkhand and West Bengal has resumed after being closed for nearly 24 hours, officials announced on Saturday. The West Bengal government had initially closed the border with Jharkhand on Thursday evening due to severe flooding in several south Bengal districts. This situation arose after the Damodar Valley Corporation released water from its dams, prompting concerns for safety and transport.
A state government official confirmed that the inter-state border is now open, allowing thousands of cargo trucks that had been stranded on NH-2 and NH-6 to continue their journeys. The resumption of movement comes as a relief to many businesses reliant on the timely transportation of goods. However, truck operators in West Bengal noted that while the border has reopened, a significant backlog remains, with a 20-25 km long queue of trucks waiting to be cleared.
Despite the opening of the border, operators warn that it will take time to clear the congested routes. The situation remains closely monitored, as officials work to ensure the safe passage of vehicles and manage the ongoing effects of the flooding in the region.
