Malda Medical College accepts junior doctors' demands after long protest

After a prolonged agitation, the authorities of Malda Medical College Hospital have finally accepted the demands of junior doctors. The doctors had staged a protest in front of the MS VP and Principal’s office, calling for transparency in the medical curriculum, a non-political student council, and the dissolution of the unofficial TMCP unit in the college. Their demands also included the formation of a Resident Doctors' Association (RDA) and greater security measures.

The protest lasted for several hours, with junior doctors advocating for a transparent and fair academic environment. Principal Parthapratim Mukhopadhyay confirmed that all the demands had been accepted, emphasizing that the focus now will be on ensuring the smooth functioning of the college, particularly in improving security and addressing existing problems.

In response to the demands, the college issued an official notification stating the dissolution of the unofficial TMCP unit and the formation of an autonomous "UG Students' Council" and the "Resident Doctors' Association" to represent the interests of students and doctors democratically. The college also warned of strict action against any student found involved in illegal activities or harassment, underlining the formation of an investigation committee to address any unethical practices within the institution.

Junior doctor Prakritik Manna expressed satisfaction, stating that the authorities had accepted their demands, ensuring a more transparent environment moving forward.
