Anubrata Mondal, a prominent Trinamool Congress leader from Birbhum, has been granted bail in a cow smuggling case by Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court. The court set his bail at a bond of Rs 10 lakh, allowing him to be released from Tihar Jail just in time for the upcoming Puja festivities. This marks another legal victory for Mondal, who recently secured bail in a case filed by the CBI and now in the Enforcement Directorate (ED) case as well.
Mondal was initially arrested by the CBI on August 11, 2022, in connection with the cow smuggling case. His daughter, Sukanya Mandal, was arrested by the ED in 2023, and both were held in Tihar Jail, where they underwent face-to-face interrogation.
Following a recent Supreme Court decision, Mondal received bail in the CBI case but remained incarcerated until the latest ruling allowed for his release from the ED case.
The circumstances surrounding his arrest two years ago have not led to any disciplinary action from the Trinamool Congress party, and instead, his supporters have remained hopeful for his return.
The recent bail granted to his daughter further boosted their morale. With Anubrata's release now confirmed, his followers expressed joy and anticipation, looking forward to his return to Birbhum.
