Clothes shop in Durgapur reduced to ashes in fire

A devastating fire engulfed a clothes shop located in Durgapur's Station Bazar under the West Burdwan district, destroying the establishment. The incident occurred on Friday morning, shocking residents and business owners alike. Witnesses reported seeing smoke billowing from the shop as they went for their morning walks, prompting immediate action from the community.

Local sources indicate that the alarm was raised promptly to the Kokoven police station and fire brigade. However, by the time responders arrived—after about one and a half hours—the fire had already consumed all the merchandise within the shop. Community members took it upon themselves to try and douse the flames before the fire engine reached the scene, demonstrating a strong sense of solidarity amidst the chaos.

Concerns were also raised by residents regarding the potential for the fire to spread to nearby electric poles, which could have led to an even larger disaster. Fortunately, after approximately thirty minutes of combined efforts, the flames were finally brought under control, averting further damage to the surrounding area.
