Thailand announces e-visa for Indians from Jan 1, 60-day exemption to continue
Dr. Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, has had his medical registration revoked by the West Bengal Medical Council (WBMC). This decision comes in the wake of Ghosh's arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the rape and murder of the trainee doctor. Ghosh, who was taken into custody on September 2 alongside police officer Abhijit Mondal, faces serious allegations of tampering with evidence related to the case.
The CBI's remand note indicates that both Ghosh and Mondal played a role in facilitating the hurried cremation of the victim’s body, despite the family's request for a second autopsy. This action has sparked significant controversy and public outrage, highlighting concerns about the integrity of the investigation and the handling of the case.
In response to mounting pressure from the Indian Medical Association (IMA) and the public, the WBMC acted to cancel Ghosh's registration under various provisions of the Bengal Medical Act, 1914. The IMA had previously criticized the WBMC for not taking swift action against Ghosh and had urged for his medical license to be revoked immediately.
The WBMC's decision follows a show-cause notice issued to Ghosh on September 7, which he did not respond to due to his detention. The IMA has called for the WBMC president and TMC MLA Sudipto Roy to set aside any personal connections and ensure justice and accountability in this case.
