Thief trapped by housewife in Behala, arrested by police after failed robbery attempt
Israel's Mossad spy agency has been accused of planting a small amount of explosives inside 5,000 Taiwan-made pagers ordered by the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah, five months before Tuesday's deadly detonations. Reports, citing senior Lebanese security sources, claim the pagers were rigged with explosives, causing simultaneous explosions across Lebanon and parts of Syria, killing at least nine people and injuring many others.
The explosions occurred when a coded message was sent to the pagers, allegedly triggering the hidden explosives. According to sources, Mossad inserted a circuit board containing the explosive material that could receive a code, which was undetectable by scanners or security devices. The devices were smuggled into Lebanon between April and May from Taiwan-based manufacturer Gold Apollo.
A senior Lebanese security source confirmed that PETN, a powerful explosive material, was placed on the batteries of the pagers and detonated by remotely increasing the temperature of the batteries. Each pager contained less than 20 grams of explosives, but the simultaneous detonations caused widespread damage.
An investigation is currently underway to determine how Mossad executed the coordinated blasts, with many sources speculating that the plot had been in the works for months. The thing that makes it scary for people all over the world is that they wouldn't have a clue that their electronic devices can be a ticking bomb.
