Over 7 lakh voters removed, 10.78 lakh added in final voter list for Bengal 2025
Veteran Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader and Rajya Sabha member Sukhendu Sekhar Roy has resigned as the editor of the party's publication Jago Bangla (Wake up Bengal). According to sources, Roy forwarded his resignation on Monday night, though it remains unclear if the party has accepted it.
The resignation came after Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee replaced several key officials, including Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Kumar Goyal, in response to the junior doctors' protests following the tragic rape and murder of a junior doctor from R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital.
Following the reshuffle, Roy posted the national emblem with the inscription "Satyameva Jayate" (Truth will prevail), expressing satisfaction over the acceptance of his demands for custodial interrogation of two heads of RG Kar Hospital and the Kolkata Police. He credited the decision to the mass movement led by junior doctors and the public.
Roy has been vocal in his criticism of the state government’s handling of the RG Kar case. He even called for the custodial interrogation of the former Police Commissioner and the medical college's former Principal, Sandip Ghosh. After being summoned for questioning by the police, Roy deleted a critical post and later shared a 1962 R.K. Laxman cartoon highlighting police suppression of truth. The cartoon was posted without comment.
Roy's relationship with the party leadership has reportedly become strained since he was summoned by the city police.
