On Monday, senior Kolkata Police officials made a surprise visit to the home of Abhijit Mondal, the former Officer-in-Charge of Tala Police Station, who is implicated in the RG Kar Hospital case. Kolkata Police Additional Commissioner V. Solomon Nisha Kumar, Deputy Commissioner Arish Bilal, and Deputy Commissioner Vidisha Kalitha arrived at Mondal’s residence in Devyani Enclave to show support for his family.
Mondal's wife, Sangeeta, revealed that the CBI had informed her of the arrest but left her waiting for hours before providing the necessary paperwork. The police officials assured Mondal's family of their support and highlighted that Mondal acted swiftly in response to the RG Kar Hospital incident. The officials emphasized the sensitivity of the case and stressed that Mondal should not be held responsible.
Earlier today, former RG Kar Medical College principal Sandip Ghosh and former Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Tala police station, Abhijit Mondal, were taken to BR Singh Hospital in Sealdah for a health check-up on Monday by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Both were arrested in connection with the rape and murder of a female doctor at RG Kar Hospital and have been under investigation. This comes after they underwent a previous health check on Sunday before being produced in Sealdah court.
Abhijit Mondal, arrested on Saturday night, was the OC at Tala police station when the RG Kar Hospital incident occurred. The CBI has accused him of negligence, delay in filing the FIR, and possible conspiracy. According to the CBI, Abhijit allegedly attempted to divert the investigation, leading to his three-day custody order by the court.
