Heavy rain expected across Howrah, Hooghly, South 24 Parganas, alert issued

The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy rain and thunderstorms across various districts of West Bengal, including the capital city Kolkata. According to the department’s statement on Saturday, the weather is likely to remain severe for the next 24 hours.

Kolkata will experience cloudy skies with intermittent heavy rain, with some areas expected to receive 2-3 cm of rainfall per hour, which could lead to waterlogging and traffic disruptions in low-lying regions. The city’s residents have been advised to take precautions and avoid waterlogged streets.

In addition to Kolkata, districts such as Howrah, Hooghly, South 24 Parganas, and North 24 Parganas have also been placed under a heavy rain alert. Thunderstorms, coupled with strong winds, are expected in these areas, heightening the risk of waterlogging and transportation delays.

Furthermore, the situation could turn severe in East and West Midnapore, where life is expected to be heavily impacted by continuous heavy rains. The authorities are on standby, with warnings issued to residents to stay indoors and be cautious of the rapidly changing weather conditions.
