Senior Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Kunal Ghosh has alleged that certain Opposition forces are conspiring to attack the protesting junior doctors in a bid to defame the West Bengal government. Ghosh made these claims on Friday during a press conference, where he played an audio clip that purportedly captured two individuals discussing plans to attack the medics returning from the state secretariat, Nabanna, on the night of September 12.
The junior doctors have been staging a sit-in outside Swasthya Bhavan, the state health department headquarters, for four days, demanding the removal of top health officials accused of corruption in West Bengal’s medical colleges. The doctors had gone to Nabanna on September 12 to engage in talks with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to resolve the ongoing impasse concerning RG Kar Medical College.
However, the meeting did not occur after the state government refused the junior doctors’ demand for live-streaming the discussions. In his statement, Ghosh emphasized the need for heightened security to prevent any harm to the protesters.
"The audio clip makes it clear that some people wanted to attack the junior doctors last night, and they may attempt it again. We have alerted the police and security forces to prevent such incidents, and we remain hopeful about resolving the issue peacefully," Ghosh said.
