The Enforcement Directorate (ED) launched a series of search operations across West Bengal on Friday, targeting alleged irregularities in ration distribution during the pandemic. The raids were conducted at seven locations in Kolkata and surrounding districts, including Kalyani, Medinipur, Barasat, and Sonakhali.
These raids are part of an ongoing investigation into the mismanagement and corruption related to ration distribution across the state, with a focus on food department officials and food inspectors.
The searches involved over 40 ED officials, including women officers, who raided premises belonging to food department employees and inspectors. Sources close to the investigation revealed that certain officials had been diverting ration supplies to unauthorized locations rather than the designated ration shops during the pandemic.
The alleged corruption occurred at a time when ration distribution was critical to assist those affected by the economic crisis brought on by COVID-19.
