The Union Health Ministry has approved the launch of MBBS programmes at five newly established medical colleges in Uttar Pradesh, official sources confirmed. Additionally, medical colleges in Kanpur Dehat and Lalitpur will see an increase in seat capacity from 50 to 100 as part of efforts to expand healthcare and medical education infrastructure in the state.
This move will add 600 new MBBS seats, bringing the total number of additional seats in Uttar Pradesh to 1,200 for the 2024-25 academic session, according to an official statement. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath discussed the expansion with Union Health Minister JP Nadda, leading to seven medical colleges receiving recognition in their first appeal.
Of the state’s total 11,200 MBBS seats, 5,150 are in government medical colleges, while 6,050 are in private institutions.
