Speeding bus mows down pedestrian at MG Road more, driver flee
A BJP-backed Sikh group protested outside Congress MP Rahul Gandhi's residence in Delhi on Tuesday, following his remarks about the conditions of the Sikh community in India. The protesters attempted to break police barricades on Janpath Road.
The protest was triggered by Gandhi's statement on religious freedom during his four-day visit to the U.S. Addressing a gathering of Indian Americans in Herndon, Virginia, he said, "The fight is about whether a Sikh is going to be allowed to wear his turban in India or a kada in India. Or he, as a Sikh, is going to be able to go to gurdwara."
The BJP accused Gandhi of creating a "dangerous narrative" by raising sensitive issues abroad. The protesters outside his Delhi residence held placards saying, "Why does Rahul Gandhi defame Sikhs after going abroad? Shame on you."
