Calcutta Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal reportedly expressed his desire to resign amidst mounting pressure following the RG Kar scandal, according to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Speaking at a press conference, Banerjee claimed that Goyal had even prepared to submit his resignation letter.
The demand for Goyal's resignation has grown louder, with opposition parties, including the BJP, and several doctors joining in the call for him to step down. The RG Kar scandal has placed the police force under scrutiny, with critics questioning the leadership.
However, CM Banerjee defended Goyal and the police, stating, "Many are saying whatever they want. The police are human beings like you and have families. Repeated personal attacks are not justified." She also added that if CP is removed before Durga puja then who will handle the law and order situation?
