India achieved its best-ever medal haul at a single edition of the Paralympic Games in Paris, with a total of 20 medals as of Tuesday. Sharad Kumar secured a silver medal and Mariyappan Thangavelu won a bronze in the men's high jump T63 event, pushing India's tally past the previous record of 19 medals set at the Tokyo Paralympics.
So far, India has won three gold, seven silver, and ten bronze medals in the French capital. This surpasses the country's Tokyo performance, where India finished with five gold, eight silver, and six bronze medals.
Avani Lekhara and Sumit Antil successfully defended their gold medals in the women's 10m air rifle standing SH1 and men's javelin throw F64 events, respectively. Nitesh Kumar added another gold in the men's singles SL3 category in para-badminton.
In addition to Sharad Kumar, several athletes, including Ajeet Singh, Yogesh Kathuniya, Thulasimathi Murugesan, Manish Narwal, Nishad Kumar, and Suhas Yathiraj, have contributed silver medals. Bronze medalists include Mariyappan Thangavelu, Preethi Pal, Mona Agarwal, Rubina Francis, and others in various disciplines.
