In a powerful display of unity, the people of Kolkata formed a 16 km long human chain along EM Bypass, demanding justice in the case of the rape and murder of a female doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The human chain, which started from Beliaghata and stretched beyond Patuli, saw participation from people of all ages and professions.
Despite heavy rain, the participants remained undeterred, holding hands and raising slogans for justice. The protest was marked by its peaceful nature, with no disruption to traffic as they called for the death penalty for the culprits. Many passersby were so moved by the demonstration that they joined the chain spontaneously.
One protester expressed dissatisfaction with the ongoing investigation, claiming that the real culprits have not yet been arrested. The event was a testament to Kolkata's commitment to conveying its demands to the government without causing public inconvenience.
