No more bus racing, overtaking in Kolkata! new tracking technology introduced
Junior doctors on strike intensified their protest on BB Ganguly Street, continuing their dharna into Tuesday morning after spending the previous night on the streets. The protesters, united in their demand for Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal to address them, staged a sit-in and chanted slogans in front of police barricades.
While they acknowledged the arrest of Sandeep Ghosh in a corruption case, they remain resolute in demanding the arrest of Ghosh in connection with the rape and murder of a medical student. The junior doctors, who often work 36 to 72-hour shifts, are determined to keep their position until their demands are met.
A junior doctor expressed frustration, claiming, "Vineet Goyal escaped through the back door." The doctors emphasized that their protest has remained peaceful, and they are not criminals.
The doctors had attempted to march towards Lalbazar on Monday but were halted by police barricades before reaching their destination. The police insisted on allowing only 20 designated representatives to proceed, as per a list provided earlier by the protesters. Despite ongoing negotiations, no resolution was reached, and the doctors spent the night singing and chanting on the streets, vowing to continue until the Police Commissioner resigns.
