Mamata calls urgent meeting at Nabanna tomorrow, key administrative officials to attend
Passengers of the Santragachi-Shalimar local train narrowly escaped a major accident, thanks to the quick thinking of the train driver. The incident occurred near the Betar level crossing, where the driver noticed an iron angle dangerously protruding from a signal post. The angle was close enough to rub against the train, causing alarm among passengers.
As the train moved, some passengers hanging from the gate were the first to notice the threat, spreading fear among those inside. Recognizing the imminent danger, the driver acted swiftly and brought the train to an immediate halt, preventing a potential disaster.
Panic ensued as word of the incident spread throughout the train, and curious onlookers began to gather around. South Eastern Railway engineers quickly arrived at the scene and used a gas cutter to remove the iron angle. After about an hour of delay, the train was cleared to proceed.
The cause of the signal post's condition remains unclear, and South Eastern Railway has launched an investigation to determine how such a hazard occurred on a busy line. The incident has raised concerns about the safety and maintenance of railway infrastructure.
