The X account of Barry Stanton (@barrystantonGBP), an anonymous user known for his racist rants targeting Indians and Indian immigrants, was suspended on Friday. The action was taken after hundreds of users, primarily from India, flagged Stanton’s posts, leading to a public outcry on the platform. Many users also directly called out X owner Elon Musk for not taking immediate action.
Stanton, who had a verified handle with over 1.8 lakh followers, had posted several offensive cartoons and memes, including those depicting Indians defecating in the open. In addition, he praised posts about driving Indians away from "white neighborhoods" and shared hateful content against Jews and Africans.
The suspension quickly became a topic of intense debate and memes on X, with the hashtag "suspended" trending on Friday morning.
