The Kolkata Police have implemented a 60-day ban on rallies, meetings, processions, dharnas, and demonstrations across several key locations in the city. This restriction, which will be in place from August 28th to October 26th, is part of a broader effort to maintain public order and prevent unrest in sensitive areas.
The order specifically prohibits any unlawful assembly of five or more people carrying lathis, or dangerous weapons, within the designated zones. Violators will face strict action under the law.
In the Kalighat Police Station area, the ban encompasses Balaram Bose Ghat Road from Tolly Canal to Harish Mukherjee Road on the north, extending through Harish Mukherjee Road up to the Hazra Road Crossing on the east. It also covers Hazra Road up to Rakhal Das Auddy Road Crossing on the south and Tolly Canal up to Balaram Bose Ghat Road on the west.
Similarly, under the jurisdiction of Alipore Police Station, the restrictions apply to the road leading from Motijheel Bustee up to Alipore Jail Museum, and from Judges Court Road to Baker Road Crossing, extending to Belvedere Road Crossing, and surrounding areas. The footpaths along these roads are also included in the ban.
