President Droupadi Murmu has expressed deep anguish over the horrific rape and murder of a medical student at Kolkata's RG Kar Hospital, which has sparked widespread protests among doctors across the country. In her first public statement on the incident, President Murmu said, "Enough is enough," condemning the ongoing violence against women.
In a strongly worded address, President Murmu highlighted the grim reality that despite the protests in Kolkata, "criminals remained on the prowl elsewhere." She emphasized that no civilized society should allow its daughters and sisters to be subjected to such brutal atrocities.
Calling for societal introspection, the President remarked, "Society needs an honest, unbiased self-introspection and ask itself some difficult questions." She pointed out that a "deplorable mindset" often views women as lesser human beings—less powerful, less capable, and less intelligent.
Drawing a parallel with the infamous Nirbhaya case, President Murmu lamented that despite the outrage following such incidents, "countless rapes have been forgotten by society." She criticized this "collective amnesia" and urged the nation to face its history head-on, rather than shying away from it.
