Chaos broke out today at Kole Market as BJP councilor Sajal Ghosh was arrested by the Kolkata Police after a series of clashes with protestors. Ghosh initially arrived at the market to support the BJP's bandh, but tensions quickly escalated as he got into an argument with those opposing the bandh.
Although he initially appeared calm, the situation heated up, prompting Ghosh to return home. However, the police soon surrounded his residence, leading to his arrest.
As police surrounded Ghosh's house, fear of his impending arrest spread among his supporters, particularly women who gathered at his gate in protest. A large police force was deployed around the area, leading to heightened tensions. Tapas Roy, a fellow BJP leader, arrived at the scene and questioned the heavy police presence, seeking answers from the officers.
At around 11:20 am, Sajal Ghosh was arrested and taken to Lalbazar, away from the local police station due to safety concerns. The Kolkata Police alleged that Ghosh was trying to create unrest in the area by forcibly closing shops, which led to his arrest. His wife expressed concern about his safety following the arrest.
A female protester, standing in support of Ghosh, said, "Sajal Ghosh was dragged away just like one of our female friends was. We must stand by Sajal Ghosh."
