The 12-hour Bangla bandh called by the BJP today in protest of alleged police brutality during the West Bengal student society's Navanna Abhiyan has led to chaotic scenes in Malda. At the Mangalbari Chowrangi intersection in Old Malda, BJP workers and supporters marched along the national highway, brandishing party flags and voicing their support for the bandh.
Meanwhile, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) took a strong stand against the bandh, with their workers also marching along the same highway, determined to invalidate BJP's protest. Despite a heavy police presence, tensions escalated rapidly, leading to violent hand-to-hand clashes between the two groups.
Ujjal Tattva, BJP's North Malda organizational president, accused Old Malda Municipality Chairman Karthik Ghosh of orchestrating a surprise attack on BJP's peaceful bandh.
However, Ghosh denied these allegations, stating that TMC was merely ensuring the continuation of services and countered that BJP initiated the violence.
