Speeding bus mows down pedestrian at MG Road more, driver flee
A video circulating on social media showing a crowded seminar hall at RG Kar Hospital has sparked controversy, leading to questions about the integrity of the crime scene where a female doctor was tragically raped and murdered on August 9th. The video, which depicts a large number of people in the seminar hall, raised concerns over potential evidence tampering due to the crowd.
In response to these allegations, Kolkata Police DC Central Indira Mukhopadhyay addressed the media during a press conference at Lalbazar on Monday. She firmly denied any mishandling of the crime scene and clarified the measures taken to preserve evidence.
"The seminar hall on the third floor of RG Kar Hospital, where the body was found, measures 51 feet by 32 feet. The police immediately cordoned off 40 feet of the hall, where the body was located, covering it with white curtains to secure the area," explained DC Mukhopadhyay. She added that the remaining 11 feet of the hall, which appeared crowded in the video, was occupied by family members, hospital staff, policemen, and doctors. "No outsider was allowed into the cordoned-off 40 feet area," she emphasized.
DC Mukhopadhyay also noted that the seminar hall had five doors, but only one door was used for entry and exit, with the others remaining closed. She reassured the public that the police took all necessary precautions to protect the crime scene. "The information about the body was received at 10:10 AM, and the outpost police promptly arrived and secured the area, ensuring that no unauthorized individuals entered," she stated.
