Jammu and Kashmir hit by 5.8 magnitude earthquake, no casualties reported
In response to the growing concerns over women's safety following the tragic incident at RG Kar Hospital, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee convened a high-level meeting today. The meeting, attended by the Chief Secretary, Home Secretary, and other key officials, resulted in the launch of a comprehensive security initiative titled 'Ratri Sathi' aimed at bolstering safety measures for women, particularly those working during nighttime hours.
The 'Ratri Sathi' program will introduce several key measures to ensure the security and well-being of women across the state. The initiative includes the establishment of restrooms and toilets, enhanced security checks, and the mandatory installation of CCTV cameras to cover designated safe zones. Additionally, a new mobile app, also named 'Ratri Sathi,' will be developed to connect women directly to the nearest police station, providing immediate access to assistance. The helpline numbers 100 and 102 will be prominently displayed and easily accessible.
The CM has directed all private and government hospitals to implement these safety measures, ensuring that women working in these facilities are adequately protected. Water facilities will be installed on all floors of hospitals, and it will be mandatory for security guards to wear ID cards at all times.
Further directives include efforts to minimize night duty for women, ensuring they do not work more than 12 hours, and striving for an equal ratio of male and female workers.
