Shantanu Sen's nameplate removed from KMC amid RG Kar controversy

In the aftermath of the tragic rape and murder of a young doctor at RG Kar Hospital, significant political shifts are taking place within the Trinamool Congress (TMC). Shantanu Sen, the former Rajya Sabha MP and President of the Patient Welfare Association at RG Kar Hospital has been at the center of these changes. Speculation is rife that his vocal stance on the RG Kar Hospital incident may have led to his removal from key positions within the party and the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC).

On Saturday, it was observed that Sen’s nameplate had been removed from his chamber at the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC), where he served as the Health Advisor. This move comes shortly after TMC leader Jayaprakash Majumdar announced that Sen had been removed from his role as the party's spokesperson.

The timing of these developments has raised questions about whether Sen’s outspoken criticism of the state’s handling of the RG Kar Hospital incident played a role in his removal.

Sen, a prominent figure in the medical community, had been a vocal advocate for the doctors at RG Kar Hospital, particularly following the resignation of the hospital’s principal, Sandip Ghosh. He also publicly expressed dissatisfaction with the state’s response to the tragic event, leading many to speculate that his removal was politically motivated.

Addressing the issue on the ‘Talk to Mayor’ program, Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim stated, "There is no post called Health Advisor in the KMC. There is only one health advisor, Dr. TK Mukherjee.” This statement appeared to downplay Sen’s previous role, further fueling speculation about the reasons behind his sudden removal.
