The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken over the probe into the rape and murder case of a junior doctor in Kolkata, marking a significant development in the investigation. On Wednesday, the CBI took custody of Sanjay Roy, a Kolkata Police volunteer, from the Calcutta Police. The CBI team immediately transported him to the agency's Central Government Office (CGO) complex in Salt Lake, where he is being interrogated.
Sources reveal that the CBI has divided its team into specialized groups to ensure a thorough investigation. One group, composed of interrogation experts, will focus on questioning Sanjay Roy and any other individuals who may be summoned for further investigation. Another group has been tasked with examining the crime scene at the medical college where the tragic incident occurred. Accompanied by forensic experts, this team will collect samples and other critical evidence from the hospital premises.
CBI officials plan to interview hospital staff, medical students, and junior doctors to reconstruct the events leading up to the crime. Additionally, the investigators will scrutinize the mobile phones of both the victim and Sanjay Roy, analyzing their call histories to uncover any crucial information. A key priority for the CBI is determining whether Sanjay Roy acted alone or if others were involved in the crime.
In a related development, the national president of the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Dr. RV Asokan, arrived in Kolkata and met with officials from the West Bengal unit of the IMA on Wednesday morning. Dr. Asokan plans to visit the victim's family in Panihati, North 24 Parganas district, later in the day to offer his condolences and support. He is also expected to meet with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to discuss the case.
