Tension engulfed Phansidewa Rural Hospital in Siliguri district on Wednesday afternoon following a disturbing incident involving a patient's husband. The man, identified as Paresh Kachhua, a resident of the Bhojnarayan tea garden, arrived at the hospital with his wife, who required medical attention. Upon reaching the hospital, Paresh informed the nurse on duty about his wife’s condition, hoping for prompt treatment. However, when no immediate arrangements were made to address the issue, Paresh's frustration escalated.
According to reports, Paresh became increasingly agitated as time passed, and in a fit of anger, he allegedly attempted to assault the nurse with a rod. The incident created a tense atmosphere within the hospital premises, alarming both the staff and other patients. Fortunately, before the situation could worsen, other nurses and civic volunteers at the hospital intervened, managing to wrest the rod away from the enraged husband.
As news of the incident spread, the Phansidewa police station was alerted, and officers swiftly arrived at the scene. The police took Paresh into custody, defusing the tension that had built up in the hospital. The Block Medical Officer of Health (BMOH) for Phansidewa,
