SC halts mosque survey orders, restricts lower courts in pending cases
Tensions escalated at the Calcutta National Medical College as students protesting the recent appointment of Sandeep Ghosh as the new principal surrounded state officials and chanted slogans. The students have made it clear that they will not accept Ghosh, who recently resigned as principal of RG Kar Medical College following the tragic incident involving a postgraduate trainee doctor.
By 10 am, Swarna Kamal Saha, Chairman of the Patient Welfare Association and Trinamool MLA of Entali, arrived at the National Medical College, accompanied by State Minister Javed Khan. However, their presence was met with strong resistance from the protesting students, who chanted "go back" and expressed their refusal to engage with the officials.
Despite the students' outcry, Swarna Kamal Saha attempted to address them, stating, "I will not ignore you. I have come to hear your concerns." However, the students remained firm in their stance.
The situation intensified as a group of students in a symbolic move, locked the room designated for the principal, emphasizing their determination to oppose Ghosh's appointment. The agitating students have declared that they will not accept Sandeep Ghosh as the new principal under any circumstances.
