The Trinamool Congress has gained control of another Gram Panchayat previously held by the BJP. The party captured the Ruidanga Gram Panchayat in the Mathabhanga Assembly constituency in Cooch Behar after two BJP Panchayat members defected to Trinamool.
According to information received on Sunday, the two BJP members officially joined the Trinamool Congress by holding the party flag in the presence of District Trinamool President Abhijit De Bhowmik.
This shift has increased Trinamool's seats in the Gram Panchayat to 12, while the BJP's seats have decreased to 11.
The total number of Gram Panchayat members in the elections was 23, with Trinamool winning 10 and the BJP securing 13 seats. However, with the recent defections, Trinamool now holds the majority.
