SC halts mosque survey orders, restricts lower courts in pending cases
The INDIA bloc parties, led by Trinamool Congress (TMC), staged a protest in Parliament premises on Tuesday, demanding the rollback of the 18 percent Goods and Services Tax (GST) on life and health insurance premiums.
MPs from various parties, including TMC, Congress, AAP, and NCP (SC), participated in the demonstration on the steps leading to the Makar Dwar of Parliament. Carrying placards reading "Tax terrorism," the protesting MPs raised slogans, insisting that the GST on life and health insurance premiums be revoked.
The Trinamool Congress MPs have raised this issue in Parliament, and TMC president and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has written to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman regarding the matter.
Adding to the chorus, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari also wrote to Sitharaman, urging her to consider withdrawing the GST, which he described as taxing the uncertainties of life and restricting the industry's growth. The unified call from various political leaders highlights the growing concern over the impact of this tax on citizens and the insurance sector.
