In a startling incident, two elephants from the Tukariyajhar forest ventured into the Dulaljot area of Panitanki near the North Bengal-Nepal border on Sunday morning, causing significant damage to three houses in their search for food.

Residents reported that the elephants first targeted the house of Vijay Tamang, breaking down the walls. The rampage continued as the elephants damaged the homes of Mithun Singh and Ranjit Singh, consuming rice stored within. The incident caused considerable alarm among the villagers.

The elephants eventually retreated to the forest after the residents created a commotion to drive them away. The affected villagers are now demanding compensation for the damage and increased vigilance from the forest department to prevent future incidents.
