Mamata calls urgent meeting at Nabanna tomorrow, key administrative officials to attend
West Bengal Minister Akhil Giri has found himself in hot water after allegedly threatening a female forest officer who was performing her duties in Tajpur, East Medinipur. The incident has drawn strong criticism from West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC).
According to sources, Mamata Banerjee has firmly objected to Giri's conduct and has issued an ultimatum, demanding that he apologize immediately and resign from his position. Trinamool Congress President Subrata Bakshi conveyed this directive to Giri, emphasizing that the party would not tolerate such behavior, especially towards women officials.
Following this, Akhil Giri wasted no time and sent his resignation via email. He claimed that he would not apologize and that he was resigning only due to honor towards Mamata Banerjee.
The controversy arose when the forest officer arrived in Tajpur to remove unauthorized shops set up on government land. Akhil Giri, who was also present, intervened and asked the officer to halt the removal process, leading to a heated argument.
Giri argued that the shops were crucial for the livelihoods of the local shopkeepers and should remain until the damaged embankment in the area is repaired. The forest officer insisted that she was merely executing her duties, prompting Giri's threatening response.
This incident has not only provoked anger from CM Mamata Banerjee but also brought additional scrutiny to Giri, who has a history of making controversial statements, including remarks about President Draupadi Murmu.
