In yet another such incident, a goods train derailed in West Bengal's Darjeeling district on Wednesday. The incident took place near the Rangapani railway station in the district. According to reports, two wagons of the train went off the tracks, though no injuries have been reported.
Last month, on June 17, a freight train collided with the Kanchanjunga Express on the same route, resulting in the death of 10 people. Three rear compartments of the express train derailed under the impact of the collision from behind by the locomotive of the goods train, railway officials said.
Yesterday, the Howrah-Mumbai mail met a fatal accident when its 18 coaches were derailed resulting in the death of two passengers while 20 people were injured. However, reports say that the number of injuries is much higher than the reported number by the railway officials.
A day before that, the Bihar Sampark Kranti Express split into two near Samastipur. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in that accident. However, this has almost become a daily soap episode of trains getting derailed or narrowly escaping a major mishap.
